THE PARK IN THE CITY
THE PARK IN THE CITY... By Bernard Bujold - It was in 1992 and Paul Desmarais Sr. had just inaugurated a small park next to the building of his newspaper La Presse at the corner of Notre-Dame and St-Laurent. Pierre Péladeau was jealous of this park and asked me to ask the director of La Presse, who was a personal friend from my time as a journalist (Claude Masson 1941-1999), about the costs of such a project. In 2019, all these people must turn in their graves because the pretty and romantic little park has changed its vocation. Once a European-style luxury symbol inspired by Power Corp.'s decoration at the World Trade Centre, today the park has become a simple resting place for the homeless in the neighbourhood and a few tourists lost in Old Montreal....
