ELECTIONS QUEBEC 2018 - THE FALL OF THE ELEVATOR...  By Bernard Bujold -  François Legault is losing ground and as Gilles DUCEPPE said about his own defeat: "... when it goes down, it's like an elevator that does not want to stop going down."  Legault still has two difficult obstacles in front of him over the next few days: Thursday's french debate on TVA (September 20) and "Tout le monde en parle" on Sunday (September 23). Worse for Legault, there will still be a week of campaign after these two events before the final vote of October 1st...  SEE ANALYSIS

ELECTIONS QUÉBEC 2018 - CANDIDATES

ELECTIONS QUÉBEC 2018 - CANDIDATES  By Bernard Bujold-  The deadline to register for the election of October 1st was Saturday, September 15 at 2 pm. In total, 940 Quebecers are candidates for the general election. There were 814 in 2014.  Only the four major parties have candidates in all ridings in Quebec.  In the end, 125 candidates will be chosen and, for many voters, the choice will be made on party leaders rather than local candidates.  To be continued!  SEE STORY

THE BATTLE OF THE LEADERS - FIRST DEBATE ELECTIONS QUEBEC 2018

Image
THE BATTLE OF THE LEADERS - FIRST DEBATE ELECTIONS QUEBEC 2018  By Bernard Bujold-  Jean-François Lisée is undoubtedly the winner of the first debate of the leaders on Thursday, October 13 for the election of October 1st.  The loser is François Legault who failed to effectively attack the program and the candidacy of his opponent Philippe Couillard. Legault also failed to stand out as the change solution!  For her part Manon Massé was not as dynamic as Françoise David had been previously but she represented well the ideas of the social left.  My conclusion: Jean-François Lisée, with his well-presented arguments, made sure to elect twenty or so deputies, and he probably helped Philippe Couillard's campaign, with whom he will undoubtedly associate himself if the Liberal Party wins about sixty deputies and gets a minority position.  To be continued.  SEE PHOTOS

ELECTIONS IN QUEBEC - 2018

Image
ELECTIONS IN QUEBEC - 2018 -  By Bernard Bujold -  An election is usually won by the polarization of the debate over voters, as was the case in the United States in 2016 with Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton or in Ottawa in 2015 with Justin Trudeau against Stephen Harper.  Here in Quebec in 2018 this polarization has not yet taken place and we are a few weeks away from the vote. There is no such "ballot question" or as the Americans say: "the wedge politics".  François Legault has not succeeded so far in imposing his difference as the Trump and Trudeau did!  There was a door open during the last year but Legault was afraid to seize it and he preferred to stay away from a polarized debate.  My conclusion: the current government of Philippe Couillard will not be defeated but will return to minority.  I therefore maintain my projection of 60 LIB / 40 CAQ / 23 PQ / and 2 QS.  To be continued...  SEE STORY LA PRESSE
