THE CORONAVIRUS AND THE CLOSURE OF BUSINESSES

Image
CORONAVIRUS AND BUSINESS CLOSURES -  HOW LONG CAN POLITICIANS KEEP DOING IT?  By Bernard Bujold - President Donald Trump has said he wants to open the economy as quickly as possible and is considering relaxing social distancing guidelines to get the economy moving again.  "We can't let the cure be worse than the problem itself," Trump tweeted. "   There has been tension within the federal government's coronavirus team for months between health experts looking for scientific ways to stop the crisis and economic advisers looking to protect the economy as much as possible.  Larry Kudlow, the White House's top economic adviser, expressed concern about the economic effects of ordering Americans to stay inside. "At some point, you have to ask yourself whether the closure is doing more harm than good," he said.  SEE STORY THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

THE CORONAVIRUS AND STAR TREK

Image
CORONAVIRUS AND STAR TREK - By Bernard Bujold - Just before the closing of my favourite bookseller Indigo, I got my hands on the new science fiction book "STAR TREK: PICARD - The Last Best Hope".  The new mission of Jean-Luc Picard is to save by evacuation the planet of the ROMULAN (900 million inhabitants) which is threatened of destruction by a SUPERNOVA (implosion of a planet) ). One could compare the challenge to that of the Coronavirus on Earth. The Romulan is a very secretive people (like the Chinese) and kept the threat of Supernova on their planet hidden, which would have been a danger to other nearby planets.  The story of the book is also the introduction to the new series Star Trek: Picard broadcast on CBS All Access web subscription television.  Planet Earth may need a Jean-Luc Picard to fight the Coronavirus, which is our reality...  SEE PHOTOS

CORONAVIRUS AND THE ELDERLY  By Bernard Bujold- Older people are at risk not only with the Coronavirus itself but also because of the other people around them in society. Here in Quebec, not only are we refusing to let them into the Société des alcools by telling them that people 70 years of age and older are not admitted, but now younger citizens are violently calling out to them in the street, shouting at them to go home!  Good luck to the elderly!  SEE PHOTOS

LE CORONAVIRUS ET LES PERSONNES ÂGÉES

Image
Bon courage... VOIR PHOTOS   CORONAVIRUS AND THE ELDERLY  Older people are at risk not only with the Coronavirus itself but also because of the other people around them in society . THE CORONAVIRUS AND THE CIRCUS

CORONAVIRUS AND THE CIRCUS...  By Bernard Bujold - Cirque du Soleil was supposed to invade the Old Port of Montreal starting on April 23, 2020, but now it's just an abandoned construction site...  Cirque du Soleil is another victim of Coronavirus and the management had to lay off 95% of its employees (4,679 people) because all the shows on the agenda (44 shows) were canceled all over the world following the Coronavirus. The management is in a struggle mode for survival, but as is the case for the whole society, the future is unknown...  SEE PHOTOS

THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS AND INDIGO BOOKS CLOSURE

Image
THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS AND INDIGO BOOKS CLOSURE  By Bernard Bujold My favorite bookseller has joined the list of companies that have been victims of the Coronavirus and is closing its doors... If there's one place that should have stayed open it's a bookstore but with all the businesses around it closed, it seems that people were scared and stopped coming to the bookstore.  I was lucky because Tuesday night, just before the closure, I got the latest StarTrek novel with Commander Picard. The story is about an endangered planet that Picard is supposed to rescue... An inspiring read for today's times!  SEE PHOTOS
